Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

Social prejudice, cruelty of natural world v cruelty of humans, themes of abandonment. Our highest scoring book to date but not without debate…

“Description didn’t have a point. Couldn’t picture it. Self-indulgent. Read it to finish it and get it out of my life. Too many things spelled out for us. Character not believable although a page-turner. Court scene too long. Really enjoyed it but didn’t feel it was a good book.”

“Beautifully written. Description and slow start were all part of creating the character and the setting.”

“I accepted it as fiction and really enjoyed it.”

“Loved Kya – very invested in her as a character. Didn’t like it to start with – if not for Book Club I would have given up, but really pleased I finished it. I was then gripped.”
