Irish Midlands. 1850s. An 11 year old girl stops eating but, miraculously, remains alive and well. With doubt being cast upon the authenticity of such a claim, an English nurse is appointed by a local committee to watch the girl and to establish whether her story is genuine or she is a fraud. With journalists keen to sniff out a story, and loyal members of the community quick to defend the girl’s authenticity, she must tread carefully to get to the truth. Inspired by numerous tales of ‘fasting girls’ in the 16th century.
